Welcome to the Cyber Security Fundamentals online short course. The modules of this short course have been
designed especially with the aim to:

By the end of the course, you will have the ability to explain the history of cyberspace, describe what cyber security is and the main challenges thereof. You will also be in a position to outline how organisations around the world are practising cyber security versus what the best approaches are to cyber security. As an individual, you would have increased levels of competence in this subject and you will be able to:

  • Assess a personal or office environment’s cyber security levels.
  • Analyse and formulate an outcome in relation to global best practices.
  • Develop guidelines for cyber security for personal or office use.

Carl Heinz Uys’s vision is a safer connected world. His mission in life is to contribute towards safeguarding cyberspace. He has been an entrepreneur since 1999. Carl is a qualified information technology engineer and cybersecurity practitioner and has gained 10 years’ experience in computer and communication science. He is also a third-year law student and has acquired skills in strategic management, people development, policy development, research, and report writing. Amongst other public interest cybersecurity projects, Carl was part of a team that contributed towards reducing the financial fraud within the provincial government of KwaZulu-Natal. He was also a member of the team who was responsible for cyber security during the 2014 South African national government elections.

He is currently a cybersecurity practitioner working within various industries across the globe.

Online Course Facilitator

This online short learning programme will be facilitated by an industry subject matter expert, who will share their experience and in-depth knowledge throughout the programme. Your Online Course Facilitator will contribute to Discussion Forums and provide you with in-depth feedback on all your assessments.
